INTRODUCTION:
Fomes fomentarius, commonly known as the tinder fungus, horsehoof fungus, or false tinder conk, is a species of perennial polypore mushroom belonging to the family Polyporaceae. Widely distributed across temperate forests in the Northern Hemisphere, this distinctive fungus is often found growing on dead or weakened deciduous trees, particularly birch, beech, and ash. Its robust, hoof-shaped fruiting body, characterized by a hard, crusty exterior ranging in color from gray to dark brown, makes it easily recognizable in woodland environments.
